LINCOLN -- The creation of a futures contract for distillers dried grain offers a new risk management tool that livestock feeders and ethanol producers should evaluate for future use, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension livestock marketing specialist says.
The contracts announced in February by CME Group will provide the opportunity for both ethanol and livestock feeding industries to hedge against adverse price moves in distillers grains markets, Darrell Mark said.

After nearly a decade of bucking the trend against keeping a small school open on its own, and eight months after apparently deciding David City would be its new partner, the Rising City Board of Education voted 6-0 Monday night to merge the school district with Shelby.
Board members, who were split 3-3 a month ago on the David City and Shelby merger options, held true to results of a straw poll of district patrons conducted by mail over three weeks.
The David City Scout speech team defeated rival Raymond Central in the Class C1-3 District March 3 at Battle Creek High School. The Scouts scored 139 points to Runner-Up Raymond Central's 128 points. The Scouts will send ten events to the state contest in Kearney in an effort to defend last year's State Championship. The Scouts took 16 of 18 events to finals and won six events.
