Sunday: Election was vote of confidence
The citizens of David City were given an opportunity to vote, and the results are what I expected; the citizens want their own Municipal law enforcement. This has also been my position since being appointed Chief in December of 1983. I also see this vote as a showing of support for my administration of the police department and how I practiced law enforcement.
That is to treat everyone fairly, equally, consistently, with dignity and respect. I've enjoyed every moment of serving the citizens of this community. David City has become our family home. The citizens of David City have treated me and my family as being a part of the David City family.
There are citizens who have been critical of me as a person and how I administered law enforcement in the community. Some have indicated that I have a fault of being too "nice," "ineffective" and "inefficient."
I've done nothing but try to be cooperative with the citizens and the governing bodies of this community, following the guidelines given to me and the department by the governing bodies. I have been in law enforcement for 37 years, the last 25 years and 10 months as the Chief of Police, with my practice and administration of law enforcement developing through those years of experience. David City has a bright future ahead of it, and I only hope that I can still be a part of that future. My resignation on Nov. 18, 2009 does not mean the end of my law enforcement life and career. To the citizens of David City, and Butler County, I say thank you for all of your support.
God Bless all of you.
Steve Sunday
