Edwin Kucera

WAHOO -- Edwin J. Kucera, 87, of Valparaiso died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo.

Services were Friday, Dec. 4, at St. Vitus Catholic Church at Touhy, with Father Thomas Brouillette officiating. Burial was at the parish cemetery.

Mr. Kucera was born in rural Weston on May 31, 1922, to August and Mary (Matousek) Kucera. He attended School District 113, west of Weston. He then worked on the farm helping his father.

James Anthony Zitek was born June 4, 1982 in David City, Nebraska to Gary Alan and Allison Kay (Tuma) Zitek and passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009 near Holdrege, Nebraska at the age of 27 years, 6 months, 2 days.

Jim was one of five children raised on the family farm. He was a 2000 graduate of East Butler High School and was a graduate of  Southeast Community College in Milford in the Auto Body program. On September 25, 2004 Jim was united in marriage to Nicole "Niki" Deanne Novacek in Seward, Nebraska.

Doris A. Bouc, age 53 of Brainard, NE died Nov. 20, 2009 at her home. She was born Mar. 4, 1956 in Lincoln, NE to Stanley and Rose (Jirovsky) Bartek.

She grew up near Agnew and attended a country school there. She later graduated from Raymond Central High School in 1974. After high school, Doris worked at A.C. Nielson in Lincoln. On Nov. 27, 1976, she was united in marriage to Glenn Bouc at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Agnew.

WAHOO -- Clara Polacek, 93, of Prague died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.

Services were Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Prague, with Father Jamie Hottovy officiating. Burial was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery at Wahoo.

Leo Martin Aerts, 88, of David City died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at david place in David City.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City, with Father Bernard Kimminau officiating. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday, with the family present 5-7 p.m., and a rosary service at 7 p.m. at Kracl Funeral Chapel in David City. Burial will be at the parish cemetery, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5814 and American Legion Post 125 of David City. Lunch will be at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Neva Sorensen

Neva Irene Sorensen, 87, of David City, formerly of Rising City, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at United Methodist Church in Rising City, with the Rev. Glenn Hubbard officiating. Lunch will follow in the church basement. There will be no visitation; a private family interment will be held prior to the service at the Rising City Circle Mound Cemetery.

Eleanor Armagost

SCHUYLER -- Eleanor Armagost, 77, of Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Schuyler, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, in Vancouver.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler, with the Rev. William Mattfeld officiating. Visitation is noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at Schuyler Cemetery. Lunch is at the Schuyler VFW Hall.

Mrs. Armagost was born July 24, 1932, in Schuyler to Lawrence and Ema (Cuda) White and attended Schuyler Public Schools.

Brenda Lee Strizek, 21, Valparaiso, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009.

She lived in rural Valparaiso until a couple of years ago and resided in Wahoo.

The Dwight-Valparaiso Legion Seniors picked a good time to win their first tournament of the season.

On a night where offense was at a premium, Dwight-Val edged Wahoo 3-2 in eight innings for the Class B Area 4 district title at Legion Field in Geneva Wednesday morning.

Yes, Wednesday morning.

The victory, which wasn’t completed until after midnight, followed a 4-2
Wahoo victory that forced a one game, winner-take-all matchup for the title.

Jonathan"Jon" R. Moravec, 26, of David City, died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney as a result of an ATV accident on July 4 at Harlan County Resevoir.
 


Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church in Ulysses, Nebraska. There will be a private family burial at a later date.

The family will greet friends from 5:30 pm - 7 p.m. Sunday, July 12 at the church, followed by a 7 pm Rosary.
